Atypical nevi (moles) are skin growths that are benign in nature but may have the potential to evolve into a serious type of skin cancer, malignant melanoma. Atypical nevi often stand out when compared to the other moles on the body. They may be darker, larger, irregular or a combination of these factors. Monthly self-skin exams and familiarization with the ABCDEs of changing moles are key to early detection.
If you would like to see a dermatologist regarding a suspicious mole or for a full skin examination, please contact our office to schedule an appointment.
